Second XI claim double T20 victory over MCC
Lancashire Second XI claimed victory in both T20 fixtures away to MCC Young Cricketers at West Herts Cricket Club.
Match 1 was an emphatic eight-wicket win with 35 balls to spare, but Match 2 was a much tighter affair, with a fine knock from Danny Lamb helping Lancs squeeze home by two wickets in the last over.
Asked to bowl first in Match 1, the Red Rose’s attack responded admirably and restricted MCC to just 126-6, with seamer Liam Hurt’s 2-14 making him the pick of the bowlers.
The batsmen made short work of the target, with Josh Bohannon and Karl Brown putting on 77 for the first wicket in 10 overs. The openers fell within an over of each other, but big hitting from Arron Lilley saw them home safely with four sixes and three fours seeing him tie with Bohannon for the top score of 39 each.
MCC’s batsmen made Lancs work much harder in match 2, posting a more challenging total of 161-6. Much of that came from a stand of 87 between Eliot Callis and Ishwarjot Sohi, Callis finishing unbeaten on 76 with 11 fours.
Lancashire looked to be in trouble after they were reduced to 30-5 after just three and a half overs, despite Lilley blasting a quick 20 with two fours and two sixes.
But Lamb took charge in fine style, blasting a superb 81 not out from 53 deliveries. He had good support, first from Brooke Guest and then Stephen Parry, but swung the match decisively in the Red Rose’s favour after the eighth wicket fell.
Twenty-nine were still needed off three overs, but Lamb dominated his partnership with Mark Watt and took his side to victory in an innings that featured eight fours and three sixes.
The two sides meet on 24-26 July in a Championship fixture at High Wycombe.
