Second XI complete innings victory over MCC
Lancashire Second XI swept to victory by an innings and 20 runs over MCC Young Cricketers in their latest Championship fixture at High Wycombe CC.
Big hitting from Danny Lamb and Arron Lilley early on the third day set the stage for an excellent all-round performance from the Red Rose bowling attack, with Lilley and fellow spinner Mark Watt claiming three wickets each.
Resuming at 427/6, Lamb and Lilley went on the attack too add another 87 runs in just nine overs. Lilley went for 52 off just 41 deliveries, and Lamb fell seven short of a century having smashed 12 fours and four sixes.
Karl Brown declared on 529/8, giving Lancs a lead of 185 and plenty of time to try to dismiss MCC. The hosts were on the back foot quickly, with Watt catching Joe Barrett off his own bowling to claim the first wicket.
He bowled opener Eliot Callis a couple of overs later, and then Lilley got in on the act when he dismissed Jakob Bhula thanks to a catch from Jamie Crawley.
Watt claimed his third scalp of the day when caught and bowled Saf Imtiaz, and he was quickly matched by Lilley when he got rid of Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Ishwarjot Sohi to leave MCC reeling on 34/6.
But Lancashire were forced to work hard for their win by determined knocks from Lezar (33) and Godsall (56), but Liam Hurt bowled Godsall end MCC’s resistance at 165 and hand the visitors an emphatic and thoroughly deserved victory.
The Second XI are back in action on 30 July at Aigburth, when they take on Nottinghamshire in a T20 match, followed the day after by a Championship fixture.
