Second XI dominate opening day against Durham
Lancashire are firmly in control of their Second XI Championship clash at Durham after a five-wicket haul from Danny Lamb helped dismiss the hosts for just 128.
The Red Rose finished the first day at Emirates Riverside ahead after they closed on 164-3.
Chris Benbow’s side made an excellent start after they put Durham into bat, with Toby Lester taking three early wickets to leave hosts reeling at 10-3.
The Durham middle order put up more fight than the top three, with Scott Steel eventually top scoring with 42 not out. But Lamb took the eye as Lancashire polished off the tail, claiming excellent figures of 5-37 from 10.3 overs while wicketkeeper Brooke Guest claimed four catches.
The Lancashire top order fared better than their opposite numbers, with Calum Turner reaching 39 before falling to McBride. Lamb, appearing at number three, could not match his heroics with the ball and fell to Main for 13.
But Guest, fresh from a match-winning 57 not out in the one-day game at the same venue yesterday, helped take Lancashire into the lead alongside Shiv Chanderpaul. The pair had put on an unbroken stand of 68 by the close, with the ‘keeper on 38 and the vastly-experienced West Indies left-hander 24 not out.
