13 man Lancashire squad named for Championship clash

Head Coach Glen Chapple has named a 13 man squad for Lancashire's Specsavers County Championship clash against Surrey at the Kia Oval, starting on Sunday (1:30pm start).

The fixture, which is a pink ball, day/night clash, will start at 1:30pm, with the second session starting at 4.10pm and the final session at 6:30pm. The scheduled end of play is 8:30pm.

Haseeb Hameed is named in the squad fresh from hitting an unbeaten 183 in the Second XI this week against Leicestershire at Blackpool, whilst Shiv Chanderpaul and Joe Mennie also return. Rob Jones is also included in the squad following his good form for the Second XI over the past month. Meanwhile, Alex Davies will look to take his T20 form into the Championship after he hit his sixth half century of this year’s Vitality Blast campaign, a Lancashire record eclipsing Steven Croft and Jos Buttler who hit five half centuries in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Lancashire will be captained by Dane Vilas, who continues to stand-in for the injured Liam Livingstone. The Lancashire captain remains unavailable after fracturing his left thumb in the side’s last Specsavers County Championship clash against Yorkshire in July at Emirates Old Trafford, whilst Saqib Mahmood continues to undergo a period of rehabilitation with the Club’s medical team after suffering a recurrence of a side strain injury at the end of June. Jordan Clark, who was offered a new extended contract by Lancashire and has decided to join Surrey for the start of the 2019 season, is unavailable for selection.

This is the start of an important run of Specsavers County Championship fixtures for Lancashire as the side play at the Kia Oval, starting on Sunday, Worcestershire at Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club at the end of August before trips away to Somerset, Yorkshire and Hampshire to finish the season.
