T20 fixtures announced for Vitality Blast & Kia Super League

Vitality Blast and Kia Super League fixtures announced

Lancashire Lightning and Lancashire Thunder’s T20 fixtures in the Vitality Blast and Kia Super League have been announced this evening ahead of the upcoming 2019 season.

The T20 fixture announcement follows on from this morning's release of Lancashire's Specsavers County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup fixtures.

Glen Chapple’s side, who will once again be boosted by the return of Australian all-rounder James Faulkner next year, will start their Vitality Blast campaign away to Leicestershire at Grace Road on Friday 19 July with the side’s first home game two days later against Durham Jets at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday 21 July.

The first instalment of the highly anticipated Roses clash between Lancashire Lightning and Yorkshire Vikings takes place at Headingley on Thursday 25 July where the Red Rose will be looking to replicate last year’s victory. The return fixture at Emirates Old Trafford will take place on Friday 9 August.

Lancashire Lightning will be looking to reach a record eighth T20 Blast Finals Day after reaching the semi-final in 2018, before being beaten by the eventual winners Worcestershire Rapids at Edgbaston.

Meanwhile, Lancashire Thunder’s Kia Super League fixtures have also been announced and they will be looking to build on their performances from 2018. The squad, led by former Australian batsman Alex Blackwell, won five out of ten group stage matches last year and just missed out on a berth at Finals Day.

Liverpool CC will host two home fixtures against Southern Vipers on Tuesday 6 August and Yorkshire Diamonds on Tuesday 13 August. Emirates Old Trafford will host a standalone Kia Super League fixture for the first time on Tuesday 20 August as Lancashire Thunder take on Loughborough Lightning.

There are two home fixtures which venues are still to be confirmed. They will be announced in due course.

Bobby Cross, General Manager of Lancashire Thunder said: “We were really pleased with how the side progressed last year and, as a squad, we’re determined to go one better next year and reach Finals Day. The character, skill and determination that was shown throughout the competition from everyone was fantastic and we’ll be looking to build on that in 2019.

“Our overseas and England international players contributed really well, but what I was really pleased with is that it was the Lancashire home-grown players who we’ve invested in, put their hands up and put in some outstanding and match winning performances.

“The Kia Super League, and women’s cricket in general, continues to grow with crowds increasing a significant amount over the last few years, and it’s important we continue that trend in the coming years.”
