Croft reflects on April after Hilton Garden Inn Player of the Month accolade

Hilton Garden Inn Player of the Month announced

Lancashire all-rounder Steven Croft has said that he has used missing out on the opening Championship squad of the season as a motivation after a string of impressive performances in the Royal London One-Day Cup after being voted as the Hilton Garden Inn Player of the Month for April.

After a move up the order to number three at Notts on Good Friday, he smashed 110 from 82 balls, following that up with 97 in the nail-biting win against Yorkshire at Headingley two days later.

An unbeaten 37 at home to Leicestershire, and a crucial 99 during a successful run chase at Durham, meant that Croft ended the month topping the Club’s One-Day batting charts with 375 runs.

"It's been really nice to contribute with a few runs over the last few weeks.

"I've used the disappointment of missing out on the four day squad at Lord's against Middlesex in the opening Championship game as a bit of a motivation and I've really enjoyed the 50 over competition so far.

Highlights: Steven Croft in April

"We were disappointed with the performance with the first game against Worcestershire and we were perhaps unlucky against Notts, but it's been good to get some wins under our belt.

Having batted at eight during Lancashire, Croft was moved to three in the batting order as the Red Rose looked to chase a record total against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

"It's something that I've done in the past and enjoyed it.

"Against Notts, we had to get off to a flier. The pressure was off and I was allowed to play with complete freedom. I was pleased with how I played that day hitting a century, as did Dane Vilas who played brilliantly well, but unfortunately we came just short.

Croft continued his excellent form into May during the competition taking 2/20 from seven overs against Derbyshire at Emirates Old Trafford before 45 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston as Lancashire qualified for the knock out stages.

The all-rounder then hit 68 in the quarter final against Middlesex at Lord's as Lancashire made it through to the Royal London One-Day Cup semi-finals.
