Davies hits half century in England Lions defeat

Alex Davies struck a well-paced half century but England Lions were narrowly beaten by India A in the first match of their 50-over series in Thiruvananthapuram.

Lancashire's wicket-keeper batsman continued his good form from the warm-up matches, when he scored 100 against a BCCI Board President XI.

Davies' 54 came from 64 balls and contained seven fours, and he was well supported by opening partner Ben Duckett (23) and Sam Hain (21).

Captain Sam Billings hit a superb 108 not out, as the Lions posted 285-7 from their 50 overs.

SCORECARD

India A, skippered by Ajinkya Rahane (59) reached their target with five balls to spare, despite three wickets for Zak Chappell and two apiece for Lewis Gregory and Danny Briggs.

The three wicket win sees them take a 1-0 lead in the series - the second 50-over match takes place tomorrow at the same venue.
