Day One Reaction from Lord's
What did James Anderson have to say?
Find out what James Anderson and Steve Eskinazi had to say at the close of Day One at Lord's as Lancashire take on Middlesex in the Specsavers County Championship.
Tom Bailey and James Anderson took seven wickets between them with Middlesex closing the opening day on 236/9.
“We are very happy with that. I thought we bowled brilliantly all day and that the whole group were really on it.
“We had a frustrating first session and a half where we didn’t quite get the rewards.
“We could’ve felt sorry for ourselves where we’d missed a few chances, but we thought if we stuck at it and created pressure from both ends, at some stage we’d get our rewards.
“I was happy with the way it came out for me today. I know we bowled first, but we weren’t quite sure what the wicket was going to do. It swung a bit in the morning and did a tiny bit off the seam, but mainly through the air.
“When it does that, I really enjoy bowling. I was happy I got off to a good start and kept that momentum going throughout the day.”
“It’s definitely a bit disappointing to finish the way we did there in the last session.
“I guess that’s credit to the way Lancashire stuck at it on what was an interesting wicket.
“There was enough in it for the seamers all day, but it definitely felt like if you did the hard work early there were scoring options.
“It ebbed and flowed through most of the day and there was a time when Gubbo (Nick Gubbins) and I were in where we thought we could take it all the way to the end and impose ourselves on the game, but unfortunately that wasn’t to be today
“It was pleasing to get in and get us off to a decent start. Just disappointing not to kick on and get that big one to set us up for later in the day.”
