Four wickets for Parkinson on Day One of Leagues XI match
Good workout for Second XI bowlers at Northern
Lancashire spinner Matt Parkinson claimed four wickets on the opening day of the Second XI's inaugural two-day fixture against a Lancashire Leagues XI.
After Lancashire won the toss and elected to field first at Northern CC, the Leagues XI opening pair of Toby Mowat (42) and James Seward (20) got them off to a solid start.
With the score on 34 without loss, Ed Moulton struck first for the Red Rose before Matthew Morris (34) and Mowat added a further 61 runs for the second wicket.
However Parkinson removed both in quick succession and also dismissed Ollie Sutton and Josh Boyne cheaply in a fantastic spell of bowling to leave the Leagues XI rocking on 124-5.
Jake Sandham hit a half-century as the lower order looked to rebuild before he fell to become Moulton's second victim, while George Burrows (1-36) also picked up a wicket.
With the score on 251-7 after 91 overs, the Leagues XI declared with Parkinson finishing with figures of 4-47 and Moulton claiming 2-50, following what was a good workout for the Red Rose attack.
There was still enough time left in the day for Lancashire to face 10 overs, Brooke Guest closed unbeaten on five but Jamie Crawley was dismissed for four in the final over to end on 9-1.
