Lancashire Under 17s reach national semi-final with Yorkshire win
Under 17s top County Cup group
Lancashire Cricket Under 17s secured a semi-final spot in the ECB Royal London U17 County Cup with a five-wicket win over Roses rivals Yorkshire on Sunday.
After winning all three previous group stage matches against Durham, Cheshire and Derbyshire, the Red Rose maintained their 100% record with victory on DLS.
Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat first and they were bowled out inside 43 overs for 164.
Tom Aspinwall (3-15) was the pick of the Lancashire bowlers, with Praharsh Parikh (2-25), Subhaan Mahmood (2-42), Robert Rankin (1-22) and Harvey Rankin (1-34) also amongst the wickets.
In reply, Lancashire lost a couple of early wickets before opener Qasim Shah was joined by George Bell and the pair added 76 for the third wicket, to move them within sight of victory.
Shah was dismissed for 33 and two more wickets fell, but when the rain arrived after 40 overs Lancashire were 147-5, just 18 shy of their target and well ahead on DLS.
Their victory was confirmed shortly after with Bell finishing unbeaten on 65 from 98 balls, his knock including eight fours and a six.
Lancashire will now meet Northants in a home semi-final at Chester Boughton Hall CC on Sunday 30 June.
