Lancashire Women beaten by 5 wickets in Roses clash
First defeat of 2019 for Red Rose
Lancashire Women's unbeaten start to the 2019 season came to an end with defeat to Roses rivals Yorkshire at Harrogate CC on Sunday.
After winning their first three Royal London Women's One-Day Cup fixtures, things started well for the Red Rose once again as Eve Jones won the toss and elected to bat.
However Jones (11) and opening partner Emma Lamb (10), who have got their side off to consistently strong starts this season, were both dismissed cheaply to leave Lancashire 31-2.
The in-form Georgie Boyce and Ellie Threlkeld steadied the ship adding 69 for the third wicket, scoring 43 and 27 respectively.
But once the pair had departed, Lancashire continued to lose regular wickets with Yorkshire's Beth Langston and Katie Thompson taking three wickets each.
The returning Sophie Ecclestone hit 20 down the order to boost the visitors total to 158 as they were bowled out in the 47th over.
It was always going to be a difficult total for Lancashire's bowlers to defend, but Kate Cross (1-39) gave them early hope removing Lauren Winfield for just 2.
Hollie Armitage (33) and Abbey Freeborn (32) put Yorkshire into a commanding position, before Boyce (2-20) took two wickets in quick succession.
But Katherine Brunt struck an unbeaten 48 to see her side home despite a wicket apiece for Alex Hartley (1-29) and Hannah Jones (1-30), as the White Rose sealed a 5 wicket win with 9 balls to spare.
