Lancashire Women kick campaign off with a win
Lancashire win by 16 runs at Hampshire
Lancashire Women made a winning start to their 2019 Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, with a hard fought 16-run victory at Hampshire.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, skipper Eve Jones (31) and Emma Lamb (27) got off to a good start with an opening stand of 75.
The middle overs saw runs difficult to come by, as Hampshire's Providence Cowdrill claimed 3-26.
Georgie Boyce made 19 on her Red Rose debut, while Natalie Brown (19) and Danielle Collins (18) added useful runs down the order.
Lancashire were bowled out in the 49th over for 179 - meaning that their bowlers would have to be at their best.
They were from the start, as England international Kate Cross ripped through the Hampshire top three with just 19 runs on the board.
Despite Fi Morris's 68, Lancashire continued to take regular wickets through Emma Lamb (2-33), Alex Hartley (1-20), Hannah Jones (1-22) and Georgie Boyce (1-12).
Cross claimed her fourth wicket, and it was a huge one, as Morris was caught by Brown and from that point on, a Lancashire win always looked likely - Lamb picking up the final wicket in the 48th over.
Lancashire Women are back in action today against Surrey at Guildford.
