Lancs pair team up for Wisden cover
Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson are the cover stars for the latest edition of Wisden Cricket Monthly.
Lancashire's latest England call-ups feature on the latest cover of Wisden Cricket Monthly, which comes out today (Thursday 31 October).
The pair sat down with Wisden's Phil Walker for interview before heading off to New Zealand on their first senior England international tour.
The magazine features a six-page joint interview with the pair, discussing their elevation to England duty and an honest (and sometimes amusing!) assessment of each others’ approach to the game.
"He was always that guy who was getting told off. But I think it just showed his competitive nature. And even now you see when he gets a pole he’s pumped. He’s always had that to him. It's the fact that he’s a leg-spinner doing what he’s doing at this age, and he’s been doing it since he was 18. Now he’s the best white-ball bowler in the country" - Mahmood on Parkinson.
"He bowled these big, slingy away-swingers, and we knew he was rapid, but after that game you could tell he had something special. At the time he was quite… dumb. You know, cricket-dumb… [Mahmood: I think the word is naive…] OK, let’s go with raw! But as he got older, the cricket savviness came in, to go with the raw talent that we all knew was there" - Parkinson on Mahmood.
