Mahmood named PCA One-Day Player of the Year

The fast bowler takes home the prize after finishing top of the PCA's MVP rankings system

Lancashire paceman Saqib Mahmood has been named as the PCA's Royal London One-Day Cup Player of the Year at the PCA's 50 annual awards dinner.

Mahmood finished as the top wicket-taker in the tournament, taking 28 wickets in an outstanding campaign to help Lancashire reach the semi-finals.

That included a career-best 6/37 against Northants, becoming only the sixth Lancashire bowler to take six wickets in a One-Day match.

He added another five-for against Leicestershire, becoming the first man to take successive five-wicket hauls for the Club in back-to-back One-Day fixtures.

Those performances left him top of the PCA's MVP rankings for the tournament ahead of Somerset bowler Craig Overton.

The 22-year-old recently earned his first England call-up alongside fellow bowler Matt Parkinson.

Dane Vilas was named as wicketkeeper in the PCA Team of the Year at the dinner.
