Find out what he's been up to...
Hi everyone from down under here in the wonderful Sydney.
I hope you have all had a good Christmas and New Year. I certainly did with this being my third consecutive season here for North Sydney Bears and missing the last two Christmases at home, I decided to surprise my parents and fly back for 10 days over the festive break and it was amazing.....getting used to the cold was another matter though!
Like I said before, this is my third season for North Sydney who play at the fantastic North Sydney Oval and it’s a picturesque place to play. However it is notorious for being a very batsmen friendly pitch, so the challenges of being disciplined and skilled with your bowling is key to being successful here and that is exactly what I’m working hard on.
In previous years, North Sydney have always been a side that have talent but never really seem to get the results that the talent suggests they should. However, this year we have won the last six games and have climbed into the top six and currently sitting at 4th, which is an incredible effort in a very competitive first grade competition.
I’ve been bowling nicely but just need a bit of luck to get the number of wickets I would like to be getting, but being part of a fantastic bowling unit who all bowl for the team has been enjoyable and we are producing great spells of bowling.
The training sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday with nets up and fielding groups set up to get in all the work you feel you need to build up for the weekend games. Training in the heat over here is great to continually improve your fitness levels! I personally love to put a lot of overs through my body and in the heat just to get my body used to bowling in these conditions so I’m fully ready for whatever the weekend brings.
I love to travel around Sydney and see some of the amazing sights that it possesses. I’ve just actually got down from climbing over the Harbour Bridge which is an experience I’ll never forget. The beaches they have here are perfect for relaxation and then a dip in the sea (nice and shallow for me to stay away from the sharks!) to recuperate the muscles is all the physio and recovery I need.
I’m heading into my last month here in Sydney and I am really looking forward to hopefully securing North Sydney into finals, which they play after I leave, but to also getting myself ready to return home and hit the ground running with the Lancashire boys and get prepared for a pre-season tour to Dubai.
Thanks everyone, see you soon!
