Second XI seal thrilling final day victory
Lancashire Second XI's spinners bowled their side to a thrilling 14-run victory on the final day of their Championship match against Warwickshire at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.
The Red Rose set Warwickshire 388 to win on the final day, and forcing a win looked unlikely as the hosts reached 141 without loss, before Tom Hartley dismissed Dan Mousley for 62 then taking the big wicket of Ian Bell for just 4.
The home side continued to score well and reached 250-3 with opener Liam Banks reaching 114 before he was dismissed by Parkinson as Lancashire started to believe.
Parkinson alongside fellow spinner Jack Morley continued their side's push for victory, dismissing the rest of the middle order cheaply and with the score 311-7 all three results were still possible heading into the final overs.
A quickfire partnership of 50 between Alex Thomson and Henry Brookes in just 30 balls, took Warwickshire within 22 runs of their target - before two wickets in three balls shared between Morley and Parkinson saw both depart and just one more needed.
The following over, and with Warwickshire 14 short of their target, Morley had Olly Stone caught by Danny Lamb to wrap up a nail-biting victory in the final session.
Parkinson ended with figures of 5 for 98, Morley claimed 3 for 74 and Hartley 2 for 47 to spin Lancashire to victory.
