Sophia Dunkley joins Lancashire Thunder

Young England international joins from Surrey Stars

Lancashire Thunder is delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated all-rounder Sophia Dunkley.

The 20-year-old joins as a Kia Super League winner after playing in every match of Surrey Stars’ victorious 2018 campaign.

Dunkley forged a reputation as being able to provide valuable, quick runs from lower down the order as the Stars claimed their maiden KSL title.

She produced her top score in the Super League in Surrey’s first match of the campaign against Southern Vipers with 66 from 43 balls, while she has also taken a number of crucial wickets with her leg-spin.

Following Finals Day, Dunkley made her England senior debut during the World T20 in the Caribbean and has now represented her country 10 times in IT20s.

She has since started the 2019 county season in fine form for Middlesex hitting two centuries, two half-centuries and taking nine wickets in the Royal London Women’s One-Day Cup.

Following her move to Lancashire Thunder, Sophia Dunkley said: “I am really pleased to have been given the opportunity to join such an exciting squad at Emirates Old Trafford.

“Last year, Lancashire Thunder showed what they are all about and they were unlucky to miss out on a place at Finals Day at the hands of Surrey.

“I hope that my experience of winning the KSL with the Stars last summer can be pivotal in helping Lancashire to Finals Day, and can’t wait to join up with the squad this summer.”

Alex Blackwell added: “Sophia is an extremely exciting addition to the Lancashire Thunder squad.

“To perform like she has done under the pressures of both the KSL and a World T20 says a lot about her as a player and a person.

“I am looking forward to Sophia continuing her development with us this summer and I am sure that she will be a great addition to the dressing room.”

Lancashire Thunder kick off KSL2019 against the Southern Vipers at Liverpool CC on Tuesday 6 August.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that Kate Cross will Captain the side, while England players Alex Hartley and Sophie Ecclestone have been retained.
