Sune Luus joins Lancashire Thunder
Second overseas signing confirmed
Lancashire Thunder is pleased to confirm its second overseas signing ahead of the 2019 Kia Super League, South African international Sune Luus.
23-year-old Luus, a leg-spin bowling all-rounder, returns to the KSL following a previous spell in the tournament with Yorkshire Diamonds back in 2017.
She has represented her country in IT20s on 63 occasions since making her debut against Bangladesh in 2012 aged just 16, taking 40 wickets at an average of 19.
Since then, Luus has been a mainstay in the Proteas side, becoming the first woman cricketer to take a five-wicket haul and score a half-century in the same international match.
Luus was also named in Brisbane Heat’s squad for the 2018-19 Women’s Big Bash League, playing nine times as the Heat won their maiden WBBL title.
Luus follows Indian international Harmanpreet Kaur in joining Thunder as an overseas player ahead of this summer's KSL.
After joining Lancashire Thunder, Sune Luus said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get going with my new teammates.
“It is a chance for me to play alongside, and against, some of the best players from around the world once again.
“I know that Thunder enjoyed a solid campaign last time out and I hope to be able to help the push for a place in that top three.”
Alex Blackwell commented: “Sune is a quality cricketer and, despite her young age, is very experienced in the international arena.
“She has captained South Africa before, holds the experience of winning the WBBL and provides us with another high-class option with the ball as well as useful contributions with bat.
“I am sure that Sune will fit perfectly into our dressing room and I hope that she will be able to contribute at the important moments for us throughout the summer.”
