Tahlia McGrath joins Lancashire Thunder

McGrath confirmed as Thunder’s third overseas signing

Lancashire Thunder has today confirmed its third and final overseas player for Kia Super League 2019 with the signing of all-rounder Tahlia McGrath.

The Australian international joins Harmanpreet Kaur [India] and Sune Luus [South Africa] to complete Thunder’s full complement of overseas signings.

McGrath, a promising all-rounder who plays for Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League [WBBL], has represented Australia in both Test and ODI cricket.

The 23-year-old, a medium-fast bowler and right-handed batter played all 14 matches for the Strikers in the last WBBL, scoring 276 runs at a strike rate of 126.02 – including back-to-back half-centuries.

McGrath also showcased her all round ability to affect a game by chipping in with five wickets and four catches during the tournament.

She has been in the UK since late-June on the Australia A tour which coincides with the Women’s Ashes tour, something McGrath believes will enable her to hit the ground running with Thunder.

“I was really excited to get the opportunity to go over to England for the Australia A tour,” she said. “It’s my first time playing cricket here and it’s been good to test my game in different conditions.

“As it has now worked out, it’s been the perfect preparation ahead of my first Kia Super League spell with Lancashire Thunder.

“I have heard great things about Lancashire and I am looking forward to getting stuck in alongside my new teammates.”

Alex Blackwell added: “I am delighted that we were able to bring Tahlia in as our third overseas player for the KSL.

“Despite being just 23, she will take on the role of a senior player and has lots of experience in both franchise cricket and on the international stage.

“I believe she will complement our England girls and overseas signings in Harmanpreet and Sune really nicely.”

Following both England and overseas player announcements, the final Lancashire Thunder squad of 15 will be confirmed later this week.

Thunder kick off their campaign at home to Southern Vipers on Tuesday 6 August at Liverpool Cricket Club.
