Vitality Blast one to watch: Alex Davies
Can Davies top-score for Lancashire as he did in last year's Blast?
Darwen-born Alex Davies is a player to watch for Lancashire in the forthcoming Vitality Blast season.
The 24-year-old is a fine example of the clubs youth academy and enjoyed a strong campaign last year, one of the leading lights in the run to the semi-final.
For the Lightning he scored 534 runs, a career best at T20 level and only just shy of Tom Smith’s record for T20 runs in a season as he was part of the side who reached Finals Day.
With an average of 53.40, Davies will be hoping to go even better this time around.
After playing at every age level for Lancashire, the wicketkeeper-batsman signed his first professional contract in 2013, but his potential had long since been identified and he made his debut for the club two days before his 17th birthday in 2011, making him the club's youngest One-Day player.
From there the 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength.
In 2015 he was an important part of the team who won the Vitality Blast, posting 235 runs, but his standout performance was in the final against Northamptonshire Steelbacks, where he was named man of the match hitting 47 off 26 balls.
In a 2019 season interrupted by injury at the beginning, Davies has come into his own in recent weeks and is hitting form just in time for the start of Vitality Blast at Leicestershire on Friday night.
