Anderson stars as England take series opener in India
The record-breaking seamer produced an incredible spell to help bowl England to a 227-run victory in Chennai
Lancashire's James Anderson inspired England to a famous victory over India on a dramatic final day of the first Test in Chennai.
England began Day Five requiring nine wickets to take the series opener but the hosts had made solid progress reaching 92-2 before Anderson was introduced into the attack.
What followed was one of the great Test match spells, his opening over - a masterclass of reverse swing - brought a two-wicket maiden and sending the off stumps of both Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane cartwheeling spectacularly.
By the time he had dismissed Rishabh Pant shortly after, India had crumbled to 110-5, and England were on their way to a big victory. The 38-year-old, finished with second innings figures of three for 17, adding to his two in India's first dig.
Lancashire's Jos Buttler, making his 50th Test match appearance, enjoyed a strong all-round match with knocks of 30 and 24 and taking five catches with the gloves.
Buttler will now head home for a pre-arranged rest after spending a large portion of the last nine months in a bio-secure bubble.
Tickets are now on general sale for the LV= Insurance Test match between England and India at Emirates Old Trafford on 10-14 September 2021.
