Balderson impresses, England reach Plate final
A true all-round performance from the skipper helps England overcome Zimbabwe to reach the play-off for eighth
Another fine display from George Balderson has helped England under-19s reach the Plate final following a comprehensive win over Zimbabwe in Kimberley.
After straightforward wins over Nigeria and Japan, England were made to work a little harder for victory but still ran out victors by a wide margin.
Balderson played a key role with both bat and ball in the victory, with England set to face off against Sri Lanka in the Plate final, the competition for those teams who missed out on qualification from the group stages.
The Lancashire all-rounder injected the innings with impetus late on, striking two sixes in making 45 off 30 balls to help put on 51 in the final four overs and lift the score to 286/9.
The 47th over was a particularly big one as he launched into off-spinner Gareth Chirawu with three consecutive boundaries, including the two maximums.
He then played his part with the ball, too, removing opener Milton Shumba in his first over before clean bowling Dion Myers for a golden duck in the next.
Returning later to clean bowl last man Tadiwanashe Nyangani, Balderson finished with figures of 3/29 as they won by 75 runs to set up a clash with Sri Lanka in Benoni on Monday.
