Balderson's England clinch plate victory
The under-19 national side run out victorious in the Plate final against Sri Lanka by a huge margin
George Balderson and England under-19s finished their ICC Cricket World Cup on a high by beating Sri Lanka in the Plate final at Benoni.
Despite being eliminated from the main competition via an agonising defeat against Australia, they bounced back to win four straight matches and clinch the trophy for those knocked out after the group stages.
Balderson and his side ended their campaign with a crushing 152-run win over their Sri Lankan counterparts.
After making a sizeable 279/7 from 50 overs, including a century from Warwickshire youngster Dan Mousley, their opponents were bundled out for just 127 in reply.
Skipper Balderson took a wicket in the first over, removing Navod Paranavithana for a duck, ending with 1/22 from four overs.
He finished the tournament with seven wickets from five appearances at an average of less than 24, with best figures of 3/29 against Zimbabwe in their last fixture, and also added 68 runs with a best of 45* in the same game.
