Danny Lamb reflects on new ball birthday haul

The right-arm seamer marked his birthday with a three-wicket haul to remove three of Derbyshire's top four

As far as birthdays go, Danny Lamb has enjoyed a very successful one on Day Two of the Bob Willis Trophy match against Derbyshire at Liverpool CC.

Lamb, who turned 25 today, celebrated by removing the visitors' top order, at one stage taking three wickets for just one run early in their reply to Lancashire's first innings.

"It's been a very good birthday! Obviously I would have liked to have topped it off with a five for but three wickets is not too bad and the team look in a pretty good position.

"It is definitely a new ball pitch and it has got harder to take wickets as the ball has got older but as a unit we have restricted them well, starved them of runs and managed to pick up seven wickets.

"I was really nervous as I don't often bowl with the new ball and it has its own pressures and challenges but I did it and I thought I did a pretty good job and pretty pleased with myself.

"It was all about hitting the right length and bringing the drive into play and I thought we all reaped the rewards from that.

"If they're going nowhere in terms of runs I'm happy as that is sort of my job when I am a fourth seamer.

"I always get nervous but I think nerves help me and today has been a good day."
