Faulkner's Hurricanes eliminated from BBL
The all-rounder's side were knocked out by Syndey Thunder in the Eliminator stage of the Big Bash League play-offs
James Faulkner and the Hobart Hurricanes are out of this season's Big Bash League after suffering a heavy defeat to Sydney Thunder in the Eliminator at Blundstone Arena.
The Thunder easily defended a lofty total of 197/5 in Hobart, bowling the hosts out for 140 with nine balls remaining to wrap up a 57-run win.
Faulkner returned figures of 1/39 off his four overs, trapping Usman Khawaja LBW for 54 to break a 103-run opening stand with Alex Hales.
Hales made 60 off just 37 balls and was well supported as the Thunder reached a formidable total and the Hurricanes were up against it after losing the in-form Matthew Wade early.
Coming to the crease with a nigh-on impossible task of requiring 80 from 28 balls to win with four wickets in hand, Faulkner fell for five.
The 29-year-old finished with ten wickets from seven matches at a lowly economy of 7.66, the second best for the Hurricanes after Riley Meredith, in a Big Bash season punctuated by injury.
