Jennings named as Lions vice-captain
The opening batsman will assist Lewis Gregory on the four-day leg of the tour to Australia
Lancashire's Keaton Jennings has been named as vice-captain for England Lions' four-day tour of Australia, commencing next month.
Jennings will assist Somerset's Lewis Gregory as captain, with fellow team mate Tom Abell named as vice-captain for the limited-overs leg of tour.
Jennings is one of three Lancashire men in the squad, with Richard Gleeson and Saqib Mahmood set to join him for three four-day fixtures against a Cricket Australia XI, New South Wales XI and a floodlit match against Australia 'A' at the MCG.
Gleeson is also included for the preceding white ball fixtures, with Mahmood due to be with the main England squad during that time for the ODI series in South Africa.
Gregory said: “I’m fortunate to have some good experience around me, including Tom and Keaton – my vice-captains. It’s important to have reliable people to turn to for advice, as well as players who have experience of playing in Australian conditions, such as Mason Crane, Craig Overton and Richard Gleeson."
ECB Performance Director Mo Bobat said: “Tom and Keaton will provide great support in the white and red ball formats respectively, both of whom have captaincy experience in county cricket."
