Jones' century the standout on Day Two at Essex
Lancashire's batsmen enjoyed their first dig of the 2021 season
Rob Jones starred with an unbeaten century on Day Two of Lancashire's pre-season friendly match away at Essex.
After spending the opening day in the field, it was the turn of Lancashire's batsmen today and Alex Davies looked in fluent form from the off at Chelmsford - his brisk 29 from just 31 balls included five fours.
Once Davies fell to tall-quick Jamie Porter he was followed by Keaton Jennings (10) and Josh Bohannon (22) as the Red Rose went into lunch with the score on 101-3.
Post-lunch Dane Vilas and Jones put together a fine stand of 87 - before Lancashire's skipper retired unbeaten for a 79 which included 12 fours and three lofty sixes.
The Red Rose headed into tea at 201-4, but following the break lost a flurry of wickets, to a combination of young Essex quick Harry Phillips (3/40) and the part-time spin of Tom Westley (3/21).
But Jones remained as the light at Chelmsford faded - and joined by Danny Lamb (15*) having his second bat of the day - he edged his way towards three figures before despatching Dan Lawrence for six from the final ball to reach his milestone.
Lancashire closed the day having scored 307 runs for the loss of 11 wickets with a very useful 86 overs spent out in the middle.
The two sides meet in another two-day friendly at Chelmsford starting tomorrow.
