Lancashire in the wickets on Pre-Season Day One
The Red Rose kicked off their pre-season preparations in the field down at Essex
Lancashire's bowlers enjoyed a first run out of the 2021 campaign as 13 wickets were shared amongst the attack on Day One of their pre-season friendly with Essex at the County Ground, Chelmsford.
In the first of two two-day fixtures between the sides - it was agreed that Essex would bat for 90 overs on Day One before the roles would be reversed for Day Two.
Lancashire started brightly with Saqib Mahmood removing Sir Alastair Cook - caught behind in the second over of the day - before Paul Walter and Tom Westley guided the hosts to lunch on 74-1.
The second session brought about a glut of wickets with Mahmood (4/15) along with fellow seamers Luke Wood (2/15), Liam Hurt (2/29) and Danny Lamb (1/9) ripping through Essex's middle order to leave them 118-9.
For the second time in the day, Mahmood then dismissed former England captain Cook - this time trapped LBW - before Jack Morley (1/17) struck on the verge of tea with the score 120-10.
Three further wickets fell in the evening session with skipper Dane Vilas choosing to take a look at the spin of Tom Hartley (1/28) and his part-time options, including Keaton Jennings (2/5).
The pre-season action continues tomorrow at Chelmsford with Lancashire set to bat for their first 90 overs of the new campaign.
