Emirates Old Trafford to host T20 double header
Emirates Old Trafford will host an exciting T20 doubleheader on Thursday 1 July with both Lancashire Women and Lancashire Lightning in action in back-to-back fixtures
Lancashire Women kick off the day at 2.30pm when they host Ireland Women in a T20 Friendly.
The Red Rose Women are unbeaten in T20 action so far this season, finishing top of their group in the Vitality Women’s County T20 competition.
The Vitality Blast North Group meeting between Lancashire Lightning and Worcestershire Rapids will then follow at 6.30pm.
Lightning is looking to go one better than they did when they reached Finals Day in 2020, by lifting the trophy for a second time at Edgbaston this September.
It’s set to be a day of big action with stars such as Alex Hartley, Emma Lamb, Finn Allen and Matt Parkinson all on display.
David Thorley, Regional Director of Women’s Cricket said: “It will be a great experience for our players to take to the field at Emirates Old Trafford, particularly for the younger members of our squad who have not yet had opportunity to do so.
“The doubleheader is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our skills in front of supporters who might not normally watch women’s cricket and allow us to appeal to a brand-new audience.
“I would like to thank Cricket Ireland for coming over and we look forward to testing ourselves against international opposition.”
Alex Hartley added: “I strongly believe that for the good of women’s cricket, it is vital that we get the opportunity to play on good pitches at the best grounds in the country and it doesn’t get much better than playing at Emirates Old Trafford.
“As a squad we can’t wait to play at Emirates Old Trafford and show the Lancashire supporters what we’re capable of. Hopefully there will be a good crowd to cheer us on.”
