Kent game abandoned due to rain

Lancashire’s Royal London Cup game has been abandoned as a 'No Result' due to rain at Beckenham.

The Red Rose had made 71 without loss from 14.5 overs before rain ended play and despite a number of attempts at a restart further heavy showers saw play called off at 3.30pm by umpires Ian Gould and Ian Blackwell.

Both sides receive 1 point and Lancashire next travel to the Ageas Bowl to play Hampshire on Sunday.

In the play that was possible Keaton Jennings and Josh Bohannon built a good platform after unchanged Lancashire had been put in to bat, the opening pair building a solid partnership of 71 that was just starting to flow when rain arrived to halt play just past the hour mark.

By then a steady start with 39 runs taken from the first 10 overs had accelerated rapidly with 11 runs taken off debutant Nathan Gilchrist’s first over-the 11th- when Bohannon pulled the 20 year-old for four to post the 50 partnership from 81 balls.

Rain arrived with Jennings on 24 and Bohannon going well on 39 with 17 runs coming from the unfinished 15th over from fast-medium bowling all-rounder Grant Stewart before a sudden downpour took the players off the pitch.

A proposed restart for 2.30pm with the game reduced to 35 overs per side failed to materialise when another shower swept through Beckenham and continued rain then brought about the abandonment.
