Lancashire set for Vitality Women's County T20
Women's County cricket returns this weekend with Lancashire facing North East Warriors
Lancashire Women kick off the women's domestic cricket season this Sunday (25 April). The Red Rose are in Vitality Women's County T20 action and take on North East Warriors in a Group One North doubleheader, at Burnopfield CC.
The County Women will be led by former Lancashire men's bowler Kyle Hogg, who was announced as Girls’ County Age Group Performance Manager earlier this year, with assistance from Thunder and Manchester Originals Head Coach, Paul Shaw and Cookie Patel. The side will be captained by experienced spinner, Alex Hartley.
There is also a new face amongst the Lancashire playing ranks, with Australian bowler Piepa Cleary joining as an overseas player. Cleary, 24, represents Western Australia in Australia's Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) and also plays for Perth Scorchers in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).
Cleary's signing adds significant experience to a young side, she's taken 54 T20 wickets at an average of 23 and 44 wickets in List A cricket. She will also be available for Thunder's (Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria) fixtures in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and Regional T20 Competition later this summer.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, which mean that only two teams are permitted at one venue, the county fixtures have been re-shuffled from those originally announced and a new team has been introduced into the competition.
A North Representative XI, made up of players from across the Northern counties, will also compete in the group stages. The squad will feature a number of players from Lancashire who are also part of Thunder's regional set-up. The side will be led by Jen Barden and Courtney Winfield-Hill.
In order to gain further match practice for its players who are part of Thunder, Lancashire will also utilise the dual-registration process for player development with a number of players joining the Cumbria matchday squad.
