Lancashire Women see off Cumbria in T20 doubleheader
Lancashire defeat Cumbria twice to finish top of the Vitality Women's T20 North Group
Having seen their last four fixtures fall foul to the British weather, Lancashire Women finally returned to action with two big victories over Cumbria at Widnes CC.
Lancashire were sent into bat in the opening game of the day and made a fantastic start as openers Emma Lamb and Georgie Boyce put on a 133-run opening partnership, before Lancashire finally finished on 179-2 from their 20 overs.
Both batters scored 63 runs each, with Lamb the more aggressive of the two with her 63 coming from just 38 balls, while Boyce’s came from 50.
Cumbria never really looked like chasing down the 180 set by Lancashire as they were restricted too just 71-6 from their 20 overs as Lancashire won the opening encounter of the day by 108 runs.
Hannah Jones was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/8 from her four overs. Lamb followed up her 63 with the bat with figures of 1/7 off her four overs with the ball. Captain Alex Hartley (1/11) and Alice Dyson (1/9) were also amongst the wickets.
The second game of the day saw Lancashire win the toss and decide to bat first once again. Ellie Threlkeld and Piepa Cleary opened the batting in place of Lamb and Boyce as Lancashire once again posted a large total ending their 20 overs 176-5.
Threlkeld took her chance to open by scoring a half century, making 52 from 41 balls. Lamb came into bat at number five in the second game and helped herself to a quick fire unbeaten 40 off 20.
Cumbria were set a revised target of 139 from 16 overs but for the second time in the day fell well short of their target finishing on 38-6.
Jones (2/5) once again picked up wickets as did Summer Carrington (2/5) and Laura Jackson (1/7) as Lancashire won the second game of the day by 100 runs.
Northern Representative XI’s double header with Yorkshire at Harrogate CC was abandoned due to a wet outfield.
