Live Blog: Lancashire v Glamorgan, Day One

Live updates from Emirates Old Trafford

Welcome to the live blog for Day One of Lancashire's LV= Insurance County Championship match at home to Glamorgan.

6.05pm, CLOSE Day 1
And that is it for today as play has now been abandoned.

We will be back tomorrow at 11am, and today's match report will follow shortly.

5.48pm, 38.3 overs
Glamorgan 117-3 Root 11* Carlson 0*
Wicket! Luke Wood bangs one in short and David Lloyd checks his stroke but gets a big top edge that is well taken by a sprinting Dane Vilas who has to put in a dive to complete an excellent catch, Lloyd out for 78.

Three balls later we are coming off for bad light.

5.35pm, 36.0 overs
Glamorgan 114-2 Lloyd 75* Root 11*
And we are back (again)! Luke Wood
completes the remaing ball of his over and James Anderson returns to the attack bowling from the James Anderson end for the first time today.

Play will restart at 5.30pm with a minimum of 21.1 further overs to be bowled.

Better news in that the groundstaff are taking the covers off once again and mopping up, so there are hopes of having further play today it seems.

4.00pm, 34.5 overs
Glamorgan 111-2, Lloyd 72* Root 11*
Rain has stopped play once again unfortunately and this is turning into one of those frustrating days.

3.50pm, 32.3 overs
Glamorgan 101-2, Lloyd 64* Root 9*
Back under way with 2 further overs lost due to a shower just at the end of the tea interval. Danny Lamb & Luke Wood taking the ball for the start of this final session of 48.3 overs.

Play update: Tea will be taken at 3.20pm with a restart at 3.40pm and the close will be at 6.30pm or when a minimum of 50.3 further overs have been bowled.

Some positive signs in the last few minutes as the sun returns and the groundstaff start taking the covers off.

2.22pm, 31.3 overs
Glamorgan 97-2, Lloyd 60* Root 9*
The floodlights are on, it’s blowing a gale out there and it’s freezing! The groundstaff are running on with the sheets as rain arrives to stop play.

Jimmy Anderson oh so close to a second wicket moments ago with a ball that got up off a length to beat Billy Root who has also flashed hard at a wide delivery from Anderson.

1.55pm, 25.0 overs
Glamorgan 82-2, Lloyd 54* Root 0*

David Lloyd reaches his fifty with consecutive boundaries, he has struck 8 of them so far in a very good innings and that's his fourth half century in five innings as an opener. But Lancashire have a second wicket and it's Jimmy Anderson who has the big wicket of Marnus Labuschange for 12, caught behind off a terrific delivery that just moved enough off the seam to find an edge.

1.45pm, 23.0 overs
Glamorgan 66-1, Lloyd 38* Labuschagne 12*
Play continues after lunch in bright sunshine after we've had another shower during the interval. James Anderson and Saqib Mahmood return to the attack.

1.00pm, LUNCH Day 1, 22.0 overs
Glamorgan 65-1, Lloyd 37* Labuschagne 12*
Glamorgan reach the end of that shortened session on 65-1 after winning the toss with the one wicket to fall that of Joe Cooke bowled for 15 by Saqib Mahmood

12.55pm, 20.0 overs
Glamorgan 56-1, Lloyd 36* Labuschagne 4*
David Lloyd drives just wide of mid-on for his 5th four in his innings of 35. Marnus Labuschagne has 4 after taking 24 balls to get off the mark and the weather is worsening as we approach lunch, some fairly dark clouds around.

12.34pm, 15.0 overs
Glamorgan 41-1, Lloyd 25* Labuschagne 0*
Jimmy Anderson started with a typically accurate spell of 6-3-13-0 this morning and was a shade unfortunate not to have made a breakthrough. The Glamorgan openers had coped well until Cooke was beaten by a quick delivery from Saqib Mahmood after making 15.

Mahmood has been close on a number of occasions too and has 1-22 from 7 overs. Luke Wood now operating with Danny Lamb.

12.20pm, 11.3 overs
Glamorgan 35-1, Lloyd 19* Labuschagne 0*
It’s Saqib Mahmood who makes the first breakthrough with a really quick delivery that nips back to bowl Joe Cooke for 15.

12.07pm, 9.2 overs
Glamorgan 27-0, J. Cooke 7* Lloyd 19*
A slight delay after Joe Cooke ducks into a short ball from Saqib Mahmood that has hit the Glamorgan opener on the helmet. Good to see he’s okay following an assessment and is carrying on.

11.45am, 5.0 overs
Glamorgan 17-0, J. Cooke 4* Lloyd 12*
James Anderson and Saqib Mahmood finding some early movement in these first few overs, but Glamorgan openers
Joe Cooke and David Lloyd dealing well with it so far. Play continuing in bright sunshine but chilly conditions.

The first over is under way in bright sunshine with James Anderson running in from the Brian Statham end to bowl to Joe Cook who is opening for Glamorgan with David Lloyd.

Better news, play is due to start at 11.25am with lunch at 1pm, tea at 3.40pm & close now 6.25pm.

Not good news sadly, five minutes before play was due to start the weather has changed and it has started to rain so we will have a delayed start.

TOSS: Glamorgan have won the toss and elected to bat.

Lancashire team: Jennings, Davies, Wells, Bohannon, Livingstone, Vilas (c&w), Lamb, Wood, Mahmood, Anderson, Parkinson

Glamorgan team: J. Cooke, Lloyd, Labuschagne, Root, Carlson , C. Cooke (c&w), Douthwaite, Neser, Salter, Taylor, van der Gugten.

James Anderson plays his first game for Lancashire since 2019 at Sedbergh, and his tussle against Glamorgan's overseas Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne is something to watch out for today.

Anderson and Luke Wood have replaced Tom Bailey and Steven Croft from the side that won against Sussex at Hove, while Glamorgan hand a debut to their other overseas signing, Australian all-rounder Michael Neser.
