Live blog: Lancashire v Yorkshire, Day Four

Live updates from Emirates Old Trafford

Welcome to the live blog for Day Four of Lancashire's LV= Insurance County Championship match at home to Yorkshire.

5.40pm, LANCS WIN BY INNINGS AND 79 RUNS!
Yorkshire 2nd inns 271 all out, Mahmood 5-47.

Incredible scenes as the last two Yorkshire wickets fall!

Ben Coad edged behind to give Saqib Mahmood his first five-wicket haul and in the following over Dom Bess was caught t slip by Liam Livingstone off Matt Parkinson to spark great scenes of celebration on and off the pitch.

And there was just 40 balls left…..

5.33pm, 135.0 overs (min. 8 overs left)
Yorkshire 2nd inns 271-8, Bess 46* Coad 0* trail by 85 runs.
Saqib Mahmood grabs the 8th wicket, Jordan Thompson edging behind. Mahmood now has 4-47.

What a finish!

5.18pm, 131.0 overs (min. 12 overs left)
Yorkshire 2nd inns 265-7, Bess 44* Thompson 10* trail by 85 runs.
4 of the last 16 overs completed with the batsmen surrounded by fielders. A number of appeals-all unsuccessful-have been made as Parkinson and Livingstone hunt this 8th wicket

5.07pm, 127.0 overs (min. 16 overs left)
Yorkshire 2nd inns 255-7, Bess 40* Thompson 7* trail by 96 runs.
Here we go – the final hour has started with a minimum of 16 overs to be bowled. With Matt Parkinson and Liam Livingstone operating in tandem it’s possible that more than 16 overs could be bowled.

Three wickets required……

4.55pm, 123.0 overs (min. 20 overs left)
Yorkshire 2nd inns 245-7, Bess 38* Thompson 0* trail by 105 runs.
At last a wicket!

Having batted solidly through 28 overs for 29 runs Harry Duke has departed, surprisingly bowled offering no shot to Luke Wood.

Jordan Thompson is the new batsman – is there another twist in this game yet?

4.20pm, 115.0 overs (min. 28 overs left)
Yorkshire 2nd inns 229-6, Bess 30* Duke 23* trail by 123 runs.
Lancashire’s search for a 7th wicket continues.

Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood have started with the ball after tea and a few more runs are being scored since the break as Dane Vilas stays with attacking fields in an attempt to make a breakthrough.

3.40pm, TEA Day 4, 111.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 206-6, Bess 24* Duke 8* trail by 144 runs.
A minimum of 32 overs are left after tea but Yorkshire are on course to hold out for a draw as things stand. Lancashire need four wickets, but Dom Bess and Harry Duke have battled successfully through 18 overs to reach the break.

3.10pm,101.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 186-6, Bess 18* Duke 0* trail by 164 runs.

It is getting tense out there! Dom Bess has survived a dropped catch at slip after edging a drive off Parkinson.

Saqib Mahmood now takes over from Tom Bailey at the James Anderson end.

2.45pm, 95.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 182-6, Bess 14* Duke 0* trail by 168 runs.
Another bout of Yorkshire resistance has been broken with Matt Parkinson removing Harry Brook just after the White Rose batsman had reached his fifth half-century of the season.

Parkinson floated up a fuller delivery that hit the batsman full on the front boot and given out lbw for 52.

We have now reached the halfway stage of this final day with 48 overs to go and four more wickets needed by Lancashire!

1.50pm, 81.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 151-5, Brook 38* Bess 0* trail by 199 runs.
That’s a great start after lunch!

Tom Bailey takes the new ball in the second over of the afternoon and immediately bowls George Hill for 18 with a swinging delivery.

Saqib Mahmood is sharing the new ball and coming in from the James Anderson end.

1.00pm, LUNCH Day 4, 79.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 144-4, Brook 34* Hill 17* trail by 206 runs.
The batsmen are being crowded by fielders with both Parkinson and Livingstone bowling in tandem in the run up to lunch, with Parkinson bowling with two slips, a close gully and a man in at bat/pad.

But so far Lancashire have just the two Saqib Mahmood wickets to show for their morning’s work.

George Hill and Harry Brook have resisted the Red Rose attack well, posting their 50 partnership off 151 balls in the last over before the break.

Six more wickets needed this afternoon!

12.30pm, 69.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 122-4, Brook 24* Hill 7* trail by 228 runs.
Liam Livingstone has replaced Matt Parkinson at the Brian Statham end while Luke Wood has taken over from James Anderson end.

But Harry Brook and George Hill have coped well so far to keep the Red Rose bowlers at bay.

12.05pm, 61.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 98-4, Brook7* Hill 0* trail by 252 runs.
Matt Parkinson has come on to bowl for the first time today at the Brian Statham end.

Saqib Mahmood is finding some great inswing and has bowled a terrific, fast, spell of 7-5-2-2 today. He’s taking a well earned rest and has been replaced by Danny Lamb.

11.30am, 54.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 92-4, Brook 1* Hill 0* trail by 258 runs.
A dramatic five minutes as two wickets fall!

It is Saqib Mahmood who has done the damage, ripping out Will Fraine’s middle stump and then in his next over knocking out Steve Patterson’s off stump to give Lancashire the early successes they were hoping for.

11.05am, 48.0 overs
Yorkshire 2nd inns 85-2, Fraine 6* Patterson 2* trail by 259 runs.
Saqib Mahmood starts with a maiden over to Will Fraine and Tom Bailey is about to start the second over to bowling nightwatchman Steve Patterson from the Brian Statham end.

10.15am
Two wickets late on the third day have changed the complexion of this match with Lancashire eight wickets away from a first Roses victory since 2011.

Centuries from Keaton Jennings and Josh Bohannon helped put Lancashire into a very strong position and today it is the turn of the bowlers to see if they can force a result on what has been a fairly placid pitch.

The spin extracted by Matt Parkinson and Liam Livingstone from the Brian Statham end will be key to any Red Rose success with the visitors needing a further 265 runs to avoid an innings defeat and they will likely have to bat most of the day to escape that result.

We have a beautiful sunny day at Emirates Old Trafford without a cloud in the sky-for probably the first time this year-with play starting on time at 11am.
