Live blog: Lancashire v Yorkshire, Day One

Live updates from Emirates Old Trafford

Welcome to the live blog for Day One of Lancashire's LV= Insurance County Championship match at home to Yorkshire.

6.34pm, CLOSE, 31.0 overs
Lancashire 95-1, Jennings 22* Wells 11*
That completes an excellent first day for Lancashire in this Roses clash, trailing Yorkshire by 64 runs with 9 first innings wickets left.

Thanks for following this blog, our match report will be posted soon.

6.08pm, 24.0 overs (7 overs left)
Lancashire 90-1, Jennings 17* Wells 11*
Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells have both powered away a boundary apiece through the covers as we enter the last half hour or so of the day to be 69 runs behind Yorkshire's 159.

5.40pm, 18.1 overs (12.5 overs left)
Lancashire 71-1, Jennings 13* Wells 0*
Alex Davies has batted beautifully in reaching his fifth half-century of the season but he's just been given out caught down the leg side for 52 off the bowling of Duanne Olivier.

5.00pm, 8.0 overs (23 overs left)
Lancashire 28-0, Jennings 7* Davies 17*
Keaton Jennings and Alex Davies have made a steady start as Lancashire start their reply to Yorkshire's 159.

4.10pm, TEA, 64.1 overs
Yorkshire 159 all out
Duanne Olivier is last man out, taken at slip by Luke Wells off Danny Lamb for 10 with Ben Coad unbeaten on 32. The Yorkshire tail has wagged quite a bit to recover the situation from earlier but that is a great performance by the Lancashire attack.

Tom Bailey took 3-6 from 14 overs while Danny Lamb and Luke Wood took a couple of wickets apeice.

4.00pm, 63.0 overs
Yorkshire 156-9, Coad 30* Olivier 9*
Ben Coad has put bat to ball to good effect to add 38 runs for the last wicket. He’s just sliced Saqib Mahmood over third man for six to steer Yorkshire past 150 which looked a very unlikely position for the visitors to be in when they were 40-7 this morning.

3.23pm, 51.3 overs
Yorkshire 117-8, Duke 52* Coad 0*
Steve Patterson has smashed a six and a four off Luke Wood but he's just been bowled for 27 attempting to sweep Matt Parkinson to end a really good partnership of 77.

3.10pm, 49.0 overs
Yorkshire 103-7, Duke 50* Patterson 15*
19 year-old Harry Duke has made his maiden first-class fifty in just his second games off 110 balls with 6 fours, although he was nearly caught at leg slip when completing his half century.. It is turning into an important innings for his team as well as Yorkshire fight back after lunch.

2.55pm, 45.0 overs
Yorkshire 94-7, Duke 48* Patterson 10*
Harry Duke and Steve Patterson have fought well to add 50 vital runs with their partnership taking 118 balls to date.

2.30pm, 38.0 overs
Yorkshire 73-7, Duke 29* Patterson 9*
Harry Duke and Steve Patterson  have added 33 runs for the 8th wicket and following the mayhem of this morning we have so far had a fairly quiet afternoon.

That may change with the introduction of spin for the first time today with Matt Parkinson coming on at the Brian Statham end.

2.00pm, 31.0 overs
Yorkshire 61-7, Duke 24* Patterson 2*
Harry Duke, playing in just his second first-class game, has been the one bright spark in the Yorkshire batting so far, hitting a couple of lovely boundaries just before lunch and he now has the task, along with skipper Steve Patterson, of rebuilding the visitor’s innings this afternoon.

We’ve had a short delay while Patterson is assessed after being hit on the helmet by a Saqib Mahmood bouncer in the third over of the afternoon session but thankfully he is okay to continue.

1.00pm, LUNCH Day 1, 27.0 overs
Yorkshire 57-7, Duke 24* Patterson 0*
A seventh wicket has fallen this morning just before lunch!

Jordan Thompson on 10 fends off a Luke Wood delivery that gently pops up to Keaton Jennings at short leg to add to Yorkshire’s woes.

Harry Duke has since hit a couple of excellent boundaries and he and skipper Steve Patterson have negotiated the last few minutes to reach the break. Now they-along with everyone watching-have 40 minutes to take stock of what has happened on a sensational morning of Roses cricket.

12.40pm, 23.0 overs
Yorkshire 35-6, Duke 9* Thompson 5*
No further wickets have fallen in the last 20 minutes as Harry Duke and Jordan Thompson battle to recover from this incredible start.

For anyone wondering about conditions, this looks like a good wicket which is probably why Steve Patterson chose to bat after winning the toss.

But his top order have received some excellent deliveries from the Lancashire attack, have played a couple of poor shots to get out, and the run out was a piece of poor judgement.

It’s all added up to a sensational morning.

Yorkshire’s lowest Championship total in the first innings of a match at Emirates Old Trafford is 67 in 1999 by the way.

12.20pm, 18.0 overs
Yorkshire 23-6, Duke 1* Thompson 1*
Stunning, simply stunning!

Two more wickets have gone!

Dom Bess has cut Luke Wood to Danny Lamb at gully and Lamb has now trapped Tom Kohler-Cadmore lbw for 10 and I can't recall a start to a Roses match like this.

11.55am, 13.0 overs
Yorkshire 15-4, Kohler-Cadmore 7* Bess 0*
Lancashire's morning just keeps getting better!

Harry Brook has gone, run out by Alex Davies after misjudging an attempt at a sharp single.
He has been followed by George Hill who edged Tom Bailey to Liam Livingstone at second slip, and this has been a fantastic start by the Red Rose boys!

11.35am, 9.0 overs
Yorkshire 9-2, Kohler-Cadmore 3* Brook 0*
This fine opening spell by Red Rose opening pair Tom Bailey and Saqib Mahmood has just produced a second wicket.

This time Mahmood wheels away in delight after bowling a pacey delivery that moved away from Will Fraine with the batsman nicking an edge to wicketkeeper Dane Vilas
to depart for a 14-ball duck.!

11.20am, 5.0 overs

Yorkshire 4-1, Kohler-Cadmore 0* Fraine 0*
Adam Lyth departs for 4, well caught by Danny Lamb at gully off Tom Bailey and Lancashire now have that early breakthrough!

11.15am, 4.0 overs
Yorkshire 4-0, Lyth 4* Kohler-Cadmore 0*
A quiet start so far with Tom Bailey and Saqib Mahmood beating the bat a few times and Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth 4* and Tom Kohler-Cadmore playing cautiously, the latter getting a ‘life’ after a catch, low down, is grassed in the slips off Mahmood.

11.00am
Play shouts umpire Alex Wharf! For the first time in 617 days we have first team action in front of spectators and it’s great to see so many back at Emirates Old Trafford on a lovely sunny day.

Tom Bailey is bowling the first over of the day to Yorkshire opening pair Adam Lyth and Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

10.15am
Good morning from Emirates Old Trafford ahead of the 274th ‘Roses’ match against Yorkshire where play will start on time at 11am.

This top of the table clash in Group 3 of the LV= Insurance County Championship between first-placed Lancashire and second-placed Yorkshire with both teams defending unbeaten records with 3 wins and 3 draws each.

This game potentially has extra significance as points gained here (and in the return encounter at Scarborough) will also count should both Lancashire and Yorkshire finish in the top two positions in Group 3 and qualify for the Championship Division One playoffs.

That’s because half the points gained from the two matches between the top two teams in the group are carried forward into the Division One standings.

It adds a new and different dimension to the first of these two eagerly awaited games.

The toss and teams will be announced shortly after 10.30am.
