Live Blog: Somerset v Lancashire, Day 3

Welcome to Day Three of Lancashire's latest LV=County Championship clash against Somerset at Taunton.

12.40pm LANCASHIRE WIN BY 10 WICKETS
George Balderson and Alex Davies made short work of that!

The pair hit a flurry of boundaries to race to the 32-run target to clinch a ten-wicket victory that temporarily put Lancashire top of the Division One table with 54.5 points.

Notts have 52 points, Hampshire 42.5, Yorkshire 41.5, Warwicks 39, Somerset 26.5 (these include bonus points gained from current matches in progress).

So we will have await the outcome of the other games before the situation becomes clear, but Lancashire v Hampshire at Aigburth next Tuesday looks to be a mouth-watering prospect!

Well done to Dane Vilas and his side on another great performance.

12.15pm, 72.1 overs - LANCASHIRE NEED 32 RUNS TO WIN
Somerset 2nd innings 314 all out.
Jack Blatherwick takes the final wicket as Ned Leonard edges down the leg side!

What a great bowling performance this morning from the Red Rose attack.

12.05pm, 71.0 overs
Somerset 2nd innings 306-9, Davies 20* Leonard 0*, lead by 23 runs.
One more wicket required!
George Balderson bowls Jack Brooks for 15 to put Lancashire on the verge!

11.45am, 67.0 overs
Somerset 2nd innings 280-8, Davies 9* Brooks 0*, trail by 3 runs.
Lancashire are closing in on an important victory with two more wickets going in quick succession!
Roelof van der Merwe edged George Balderson to first slip where Luke Wells grabbed a sharp chance and Marchant de Lange edged Jack Blatherwick to Rob Jones at second slip.

11.35am, 65.0 overs
Somerset 2nd innings 278-6, Davies 7* van der Merwe 23*, trail by 5 runs.
Matt Parkinson is bowling his first over of the day as Somerset are close to making Lancashire bat again.
Steve Davies and Roelof van der Merwe have both got thick edges for four but van der Merwe has also put away a couple of half volleys through cover as well.

11.05am, 57.0 overs
Somerset 2nd innings 250-6, Davies 1* van der Merwe 1*, trail by 33 runs.
Tom Bailey has second wicket, Lewis Goldsworthy lbw for 21, and this has been just the start Lancashire would have hoped for.

George Balderson coming on to replace Danny Lamb.

10.55am, 56.0 overs
Somerset 2nd innings 244-5, Goldsworthy 17* Davies 0*, trail by 39 runs.
Lancashire have a first wicket of the day and James Hildreth has rather given his wicket away for 26, attempting to be aggressive against Tom Bailey but his pull shot found a top edge and was caught by Jack Blatherwick moving in from point.

10.45am. 52.0 overs
Somerset 2nd innings 231-4, Hildreth 25* Goldsworthy 7*, trail by 52 runs.
Play getting under way in dull, cloudy conditions and the floodlights are on already.

It has been a cagey start so far as you would expect with the Somerset batsmen carefully playing themselves in against Tom Bailey and Danny Lamb.

10.00am
A career-best four-wicket haul by Jack Blatherwick in his maiden first-class bowling stint for Lancashire, and three late wickets by Luke Wells, helped  the Red Rose gain a crucial advantage after two breathless and fast-moving days of action at Taunton.  A shout-out to for the excellent Tom Bailey who took 3-9 to start the hosts’ collapse.

Lancashire produced an excellent bowling performance to stun Somerset yesterday morning and although they were made to work much harder second time around following a fabulous century from Tom Lammonby, those three wickets by Wells just before the close suddenly gave a the match a different complexion.

Lancashire start this morning with a 57-run advantage and need six more Somerset wickets to either win by an innings or set up a run chase.

It is another cloudy and dry morning at Taunton following overnight rain and we look to be starting on time at 10.30am.
