Notts fight back on Day Three of Second XI clash
Report from Day Three at Lady Bay CC
Nottinghamshire's batsman fought back on the third day of Lancashire's Second XI Championship match at Lady Bay CC.
Resuming on 105-5 and still trailing by 385 runs, Notts pair Matt Carter and Dane Schadendorf added a further 30 to the total before Tom Aspinwall began an incredible spell by taking the first wicket of the day.
Aspinwall then ran through the Notts lower order, as the home side were bowled out for 159, the young seamer finishing with figures of 5/19 from just 4.1 overs. With Notts still trailing by 331 runs, the follow-on was enforced by Lancashire.
When Jack Blatherwick struck early in the reply, trapping Seb Menzhausen LBW for 3, it looked as though Lancashire would continue their dominance from the first innings.
However Notts opener Ben Compton (102*) was joined by Joey Evison (76*) and the pair batted unbeaten through two sessions to take the home side to the close at 219-1, trailing by 112 runs. Compton bringing up his century just before the close of play.
Lancashire will head into the final day at Lady Bay CC still confident of securing the victory that their dominance of the first two days deserves.
