Second XI defeated by Yorkshire at Liverpool CC
The Second XI’s latest T20 outing saw them suffer defeat at the hands of Roses rivals Yorkshire at Liverpool CC.
Rob Jones won the toss for Lancashire and sent Yorkshire into bat first. Liam Hurt picked up the wicket of James Wharton in the second over with the score 14-1.
Following that early wicket Yorkshire piled on the runs as Harry Duke and former England international Gary Ballance put on a 169 run partnership.
Jack Morley finally dismissed Ballance for 125, and also picked up the wicket of Matthew Fisher in his next over, and finished the day with figures of 2/34 to be the Red Roses most economical bowler.
Hurt returned to pick up two late wickets and completed his four overs 3/39 and alongside Morley was the only other Lancashire bowler with an economy rate under 10.
Yorkshire set Lancashire 238 to win having finished on 237-5 from their 20 overs.
George Balderson got Lancashire of to a bright start but the wickets of Owais Shah (5) and Luke Wells (9) either side of him left Lancashire 34-2 early on in the run chase.
The end of the 8th over turned out to be the turning point in the chase. Having put on 40 with Jones (35), Balderson was dismissed for 46 from 26 and was followed back to the pavilion by George Lavelle the very next ball.
George Bell finished 40 not out but Lancashire struggled to keep up with the run rate and ended their innings 161-5, losing by 76 runs.
