Second XI fightback but suffer tight Notts defeat
The Second XI suffered a tight loss against Nottinghamshire in Liverpool
Lancashire captain George Lavelle won the toss and elected to bat.
Openers Owais Shah and Taylor Cornall got Lancashire off to a great starting reaching 63 without the loss of a wicket in the 10th over. But the introduction of spin once again dominated at Aigburth as Lancashire were bowled out for 183.
Eight wickets fell to spin, with left arm spinner Fateh Singh taking (4-24) from his 10 overs. Liam Patterson-White (2-33) took the first wicket as he dismissed Shah (39) before Lavelle (12) and Cornall (29) soon followed Shah back to the pavilion.
The Nottinghamshire spinners made life difficult for the Lancashire middle order but Tom Aspinwall, who has been selected in the County Select XI next week to play India at Durham, contributed 33.
Despite an excellent effort from Lancashire spinner Xander Selby - who took figures of 4-16 from his 10 overs - Nottinghamshire won by two wickets with 13 overs left.
Similar to the Lancashire innings openers Sol Budinger and Ben Slater got the visitors off to a great start with the score on 117 in the 15Th over. With pace bowling getting punished once again before the spinners took control.
The introduction of Selby - bowling in tandem with Jack Morley (2-50) - saw Notts collapse from 117-0 to 136-5. Budinger (76) and Slater (37) fell only 4 balls apart. Budinger’s 76 came off just 43 balls containing 10 fours and 2 sixes.
Sam King (12*) and Toby Pettman (10*) then edged Notts over the line as they put on 21 for the 9th wicket partnership.
