Unbeaten record goes in six wicket defeat to Glamorgan

Unbeaten record goes in six wicket defeat to Glamorgan

Lancashire lost their unbeaten record in the LV= Insurance County Championship after suffering a six-wicket defeat to Glamorgan on the third morning of the match.

Resuming on 137-3 it took the hosts just over an hour to score the 51 runs they required for victory.

Luke Wood troubled Kiran Carlson during the early overs, beating the Glamorgan batsmen with a ball that kept low before making the breakthrough when Carlson got a leading edge off a Wood ball that bounced more than he was expecting, Dane Vilas taking a comfortable catch.

But that was as good as it got for Lancashire who conceded early runs too with Marnus Labuschagne and Chris Cooke edging boundaries before settling down to steer their side through to their 188 run target.

Labuschagne played a fine innings for his team, reaching his half century off 54 balls, striking only 5 fours but running hard between the wickets to finish unbeaten on 61 after hitting the winning runs.

Glamorgan captain Cooke was 17 not out and lent his partner good support while Lancashire fought all the way in this game but will rue that post-lunch session yesterday which swung the game firmly the way of the hosts.

Lancashire take 3 points from the game and Glamorgan 19.

Despite the defeat Lancashire remain top of the Group 3 table with qualification for Division One later this season still very much in their own hands with two games to play.

Lancashire’s next Group 3 match is against Kent at Emirates Old Trafford starting on Sunday 4th July with the final match the return Roses clash against Yorkshire at Scarborough later the same month.
