Lancashire kick off Women's County T20 with two wins
Lancashire sit top of the Women’s County T20 after two wins on the opening day of the competition.
A 49-run win against Nottinghamshire was followed by a three wicket win over Derbyshire in the final over earnt Chris Chambers team two victories at Northern CC.
In the first game against Nottinghamshire, Alex Hartley took T20 career best figures of 4/5 as Lancashire bowled out the visitors for 50 in their pursuit of 100. Olivia Thomas (2-7) and Phoebe Graham (2-11) both took two wickets a piece.
In the first innings opener Nat Brown top scored with 27 whilst there were also contributions from Georgie Boyce (16), Graham (12) and Sophia Turner (10) as Lancashire posted 99-7.
In Lancashire’s second game of the day, Danielle Collins hit a half century scoring 51 as the Red Rose chased down Derbyshire’s total of 135 with two balls to spare.
Collins' 51 included six fours and came from 58 balls, whilst she was apart of a second wicket partnership worth 90 with Georgie Boyce who hit 39.
Captain Ellie Threlkeld hit the winning runs, finishing 17 not out as Lancashire scored the sevens runs required from the final over.
Derbyshire’s Kathryn Bryce hit 79 not out containing nine fours and two sixes which helped the visitors post 135-7. Lara Shaw also added 20 and added a seventh wicket partnership worth 83 with Bryce.
Natalie Brown was the pick of the bowlers for Lancashire taking 4-21 while Phoebe Graham (1-24) picked up the only other Derbyshire wicket.
A number of Lancashire players also featured for the North Rep Team. They lost by 20 runs to Derbyshire in the first game and beat Nottinghamshire by 8 wickets in their second game with Lancashire’s Rebecca Duckworth hitting 46 not out against Notts.
Lancashire Women’s next game is Sunday 24 April in a double header at Barrow CC. They play Cumbria at 10:30am followed by the North Rep team at 1:30pm.
