Strong Second XI side share T20 spoils with Notts
There was a thrilling game which ended in a tie as Lancashire Second XI faced Nottinghamshire at Worksop College in the Second XI North Group.
In preparation for the Vitality Blast starting against Yorkshire, several first team players featured including captain Dane Vilas, Phil Salt, Luke Wood, Luke Wells and Tom Bailey all featured.
Karl Krikken’s team travelled down to Notts to play two T20s but unfortunately the second game was called off 4.1 overs into the game, with Lancashire reaching 49-2 before rain prevented any further play.
In the first game, Nottinghamshire required 11 runs for victory in the final over and three from the last ball. But Ben Martindale could only manage two runs off Liam Hurt to end the match tied.
Ex-Lancashire man Haseeb Hameed top scored with 46 while openers Ben Slater (32) and Sol Budinger (29) got the hosts of to a quick start reaching 67-1 after the powerplay in their pursuit of 163 to win.
But some tight bowling from Jack Morley (1-21) and Luke Wood (1-21) restricted the Nottinghamshire batters.
Earlier in the day, after losing the toss Lancashire were asked to bat.
Rob Jones top scored with 76 not out as Lancashire posted 162-7 in their 20 overs. Jones’s 76 came off 53 balls including seven fours and two sixes.
There were also contributions from George Bell (36) and Luke Wells (31).
