U19s Cricket World Cup Watch: Part 4

U19s Cricket World Cup Watch: Part 4

England face South Africa for a place in the semi-finals of the U19s World Cup.

The quarter-final is being played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and starts at 13:00 GMT today (26 January) live on Sky Sports.

After comfortable wins against Bangladesh, Canada and the UAE in Group A England have made the journey over to Antigua from St Kitts.

Lancashire’s Josh Boyden has taken 10 wickets in three games and speaking about his World Cup experience so far, Boyden said: “It’s an amazing feeling to take wickets for your country but it’s even better when it’s helping to win matches. It was quite overwhelming at first as it’s a World Cup and there are so many people watching and judging you, but once I bowled my first ball in the tournament, I felt very relaxed.”

Meanwhile in Group B, South Africa won two out their three games beating Ireland and Uganda and losing to India. South Africa’s danger man, Dewald Brevis, has scored 265 runs in three innings including a century against Uganda.

Boyden speaking ahead of the South Africa match, added: “The squad is very confident going into this match, we have our batters in form and our bowlers are bowling well. All we need to do is implement the positives we have shown throughout the tournament into this game and potentially the games to come.”

Throughout the tournament, England have shown the depth in their eleven with several bowlers used each game and a strong middle and lower batting order with Lancashire all-rounder Tom Aspinwall coming in down at nine.

Boyden concluded: “Squad depth is hugely important both bowling and batting. On numerous occasions throughout the England U19s pathway we have lost wickets in clusters, but the lower and middle order have got us home with George Bell and Tom Aspinwall being two of the batters to help us get across the line. Bowling wise, I think having variety in the squad really helps and can obviously be used to put plans in place to get certain batters out.”
