U13s Mumbai Player Diary: Thomas Jackson
Thomas Jackson, who plays for Denton St Lawrence CC, is 12 years old and attends Audenshaw High School. He is a Right Hand Batsman and Wicket Keeper, with over 50 dismissals, both catches and stumpings. He has been playing for Lancashire Cricket since the age of 10.
My experience of playing cricket in Mumbai has been both challenging and rewarding. I batted for the first time on the tour at the historic Maidan Oval and scored 32 runs against Mayo College. Some of the decisions I had to make in the middle were risky, but also rewarding.
In England when you play cricket, there are not many distractions apart from the opponents in the field. However, here in Mumbai, there is a great deal of noise from the fielders, and also from the traffic. The constant honking of horns really adds to the atmosphere.
The warm up before the game against Mayo College was an interesting experience. The dogs which hang around the Oval ran off with the cones that had been set out. The outfield was very uneven and the square was raised like nothing we had come across before.
This experience of India is one which will last a life time and is one that will never be repeated again anywhere in the world.
