James Anderson breaks Glenn McGrath's record for Test wickets
Lancashire bowler James Anderson has overtaken Australia's Glenn McGrath to become the top Test wicket taker for a seam bowler, and the fourth highest wicket taker in the history of Test Cricket.
Anderson, who is currently top of the ICC rankings, now has 564 wickets to his name after dismissing Mohammed Shami on Day Five as England beat India by 118 runs at the Kia Oval, to secure a 4-1 series win.
The 36 year-old, who came through the Lancashire Age group and Academy system having grown up at Burnley Cricket Club, surpassed the 500 mark last year by bowling West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite during the Lord's Test in September. A month previous, during the Emirates Old Trafford Test against South Africa, the Club honoured him with the new James Anderson End, formerly named the Pavilion End.
Anderson, who made his Test debut in 2003 and has 143 Test caps to his name, has helped England win three Ashes series and rise to the top of the Test rankings in 2011.
Lancashire Chairman, David Hodgkiss OBE, paid tribute to Anderson, commenting: “It is yet another amazing achievement for Jimmy.
"He is England’s greatest bowler of all time, of that there is no doubt. England and Lancashire are very lucky to have him.
