Myerscough College - Cricket Studies Course
Myerscough College has continued its unique partnership between Lancashire Cricket Club, Lancashire Cricket Foundation and Lancashire Cricket Club Foundation to offer a fantastic opportunity for students wishing to pursue a career within the cricket and sports industry.
At Emirates Old Trafford, Myerscough College offer a range of qualifications to study, focusing on the BTEC Diploma suite. Most of our learners study at Level 3 to gain entry to university, but others go on to play cricket in the Australian, New Zealand and English league system, often with attractive conditions. Some of our learners spend three years with us instead of two, by starting on the BTEC Level 2 Diploma.
If you love cricket, want to learn about cricket, sport and the industry, then look no further than Emirates Old Trafford. We are based in the Indoor Cricket Centre, the main training home for the Lancashire Cricket Club Men’s 1st XI and, when England are playing, the national side too.
At either level, your study programme will consist of theory, practical, investigations, visits to other venues and students will receive an expert cricket training programme led by the Cricket Centre’s Lead Coach.
We also are working ever closer with the Lancashire Cricket Club Foundation, the club’s charitable arm, and have supplied the Foundation with many volunteers to assist in community projects.
As part of the course the Lancashire Cricket Foundation deliver a Coach Support Worker course in conjunction with our students to give students their first step on to the ECB coaching pathway, which will offer them work experience opportunities in the future.
We play in the U17 National Schools’ Cup, the Association of Colleges Indoor Cricket Cup, the Association of Colleges Outdoor T20 and exhibition friendlies against some of the best schools in the country.
Our Level 3 programmes are offered to those students who have 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English Language and Maths). Our Level 2 programme will suit those who do not fit the above grades but have a range of GCSE grades above ‘E’, including English Language & Maths.
Your future progression routes could be:
- University (80% progressed to university in 2014)
- Employment
- Cricket playing contracts
- Apprenticeships
You can even continue your studies with us by enrolling on one of our Foundation Degree courses at Myerscough College, depending on your UCAS points tariff.
