Celebrating Lancashire's longest-living former player, Ken Standring, aged 88
This week we celebrate our longest living former Lancashire player.
Ken Standring was born on 17 February 1935 and at the age of 88 he is our oldest living player. Born in Clitheroe, Ken played for Lancashire between 1954 and 1962 playing 13 matches and opened the bowling with Brian Statham. His first wicket for the Red Rose was Len Hutton!
He went on to play cricket for Farnworth, Bingley, Bradshaw and Ribblesdale Wanderers, whilst his job as a local government officer took him to Southport in 1974.
He joined Southport CC, playing in the Championship winning sides of 1975 and 1979 and was later given Honorary Life membership for his services to the club as Chairman and President. He finished playing relatively early and turned his attention to coaching and administration, becoming Assistant Secretary to the Lancashire Cricket Board.
He was honoured by Lancashire Cricket and made a Vice-President for his work with the Lancashire Federation and promoting the game of cricket in Lancashire.
Ken attended Lancashire's game at Southport and Birkdale CC last summer in the County Championship. The Club has sent Ken a cheese and wine hamper to welcome in the New Year from Lancashire’s Former Players Association.
