Open Letter to Members from Chris Peacock
Board Member Chris Peacock, who is responsible for Member Services and Communications, has penned an open letter to the Club's Members, after being voted onto Lancashire's Board of Directors by Members at the Annual General Meeting earlier this year.
Dear Lancashire Cricket Members,
Following my election by you as a Non-Executive Director responsible for Member Services and Communication at the AGM, I wanted to write to you all to let you know a little more about what I have been doing and also what I would like to focus on following attending my first Board meeting recently.
Firstly, I would like to thank you for voting for me and allowing me this honour to represent you on the Club’s Board of Directors. This position is a privilege, and I will do my utmost to ensure that your voice is heard by those at the top level of Lancashire Cricket – this is my priority whilst also working collaboratively with Members, the Executive Team at the Club, as well as with the Members’ Representative Group (MRG) to support the Club in achieving its vision for the future.
I believe that it is vital that Members are represented and that a two-way communication is open. It is important that messages from the Board are filtered down in the correct manner and that Members know they have someone to speak to – on issues no matter how big or small – and I am honoured to be that representative. Since being appointed at the AGM, I have spent time getting to know the way the Club operates and attended my first Board meeting.
I’d like to reiterate the importance of the MRG and great work they have done and will continue to do so in the future. It is important that Members use the MRG, alongside myself, to raise their comments, questions, and suggestions on how to improve aspects of the Club and to create a new future together.
It is vital that our Membership continues to grow, not only in numbers but also in diversity. We need to ensure that Lancashire Cricket’s Membership best represents the community that the Club serves. Lancashire Cricket is a Members’ Club. As Members we are not customers nor season ticket holders. The investment Members make is so much more than just paying for a ticket. To become a Member is to become part of a much bigger family and it is important for us to communicate that - not only to our existing Members but also to new prospective Members.
There are always going to be issues and challenges faced along the way. One thing I have learnt since my election is that the Club does not hide from admitting that things have not always been perfect in the past. I watched from afar during last year’s High Performance Review process and I think it’s probably fair to say that there was a breakdown in communication between the Club and the Membership. It was clearly a very difficult situation to manage and it showed the passion of our Members, supporters and wider Lancashire Cricket family.
I believe that this passion demonstrates the positive future of Lancashire Cricket, and all forms of cricket that are played by the Club.
Going forward I’d like to make the following commitments to all Members:
- To be available to you all to listen and engage with about your concerns and any ideas you have to improve our Club;
- To work in partnership with the MRG; and
- To ensure the Club communicates effectively with Members throughout the year.
With that, I’d like to share some contact details. If you are interested in being part of the MRG, or would like to speak with them about any ideas or thoughts you have, please drop them an email at [email protected].
I also just wanted to remind you that the next Member’s Forum will be taking place in the Edge Restaurant in the New Development at Emirates Old Trafford on Wednesday 26 July. This is a great opportunity for Members to engage with the Club, to get further updates from Lancashire Cricket and ask questions that you might have. We encourage as many people to attend as possible.
Finally, I would like to offer my own email details so anyone can get in touch with me - [email protected]. But please, if you see me at a game, please come and say hello and have a chat with me. I will always endeavour to make myself available to Members wherever possible, and if you do not have access to email, please write to the Club directly and they will pass your letter onto me directly.
Thank you again for this opportunity and I sincerely hope to successfully serve you all on the Club’s Board.
Best wishes,
Chris Peacock
