Second Eleven win by 58 runs against Leeds/Bradford UCCE
Lancashire’s Second Eleven ran out winners by 58 runs in their two-day friendly against Leeds/Bradford UCCE.
Resuming this morning on 88-2, University pair Sam Dorsey and Abhishek Paradkar soon extended their partnership past the hundred mark and Paradkar looked set to make a century only to fall five runs short after the left-handed batter glanced George Balderson down the leg side with wicketkeeper Matty Hurst making a good diving catch.
Former Lancashire Academy batter Dorsey was also going well on 81 before his attempt to hit left-arm spinner and current Lancashire Academy bowler Charlie Barnard over the top ended up in the hands of George Balderson at mid-on.
Tom Keast hit a rapid 41 off 32 balls before he top-edged an attempted pull at a short ball from Harry Birkman to Jack Morley at midwicket, while Nick Keast was deceived by a nicely flighted delivery from Barnard and stumped by Matty Hurst for 9.
Kurtis Watson, who has played for Lancashire’s Second XI over the past four years, went the same way after missing with a big heave at Barnard to give Hurst another stumping as Leeds/Bradford looked for quick runs prior to the declaration after 70 overs.
That arrived with the hosts 265-7 and behind by 23 runs.
Ben Parker took two quick wickets at the start of the second innings as Lancashire rejigged the batting order to give other players time in the middle. Jack Blatherwick was bowled for 2 and Danny Lamb caught at second slip off his second ball to leave the Red Rose 11-2.
Matty Hurst retired for 28 and Jack Morley fell for 5 to off spinner Nick Keast, but Tom Aspinwall with an unbeaten 43 (off 46 balls) and Arav Shetty (19 not out) took Lancashire to 97-3 declared, setting Leeds/Bradford 121 to win from 26 overs.
The hosts never got close after collapsing to 62 all out in their second innings, Sam Dorsey (17) and Naivedyam Dwivedi (14 not out) the only batters to reach double figures.
Danny Lamb (4-21) took the early wickets of Henry Dobson and Zac Perrens, and from 29-2 the UCCE side fell away quickly with Jack Blatherwick taking 4-29 and George Balderson (2-2) wrapping up a 58-run victory.
