Vilas to bow out after Middlesex match
Dane Vilas has announced that the ongoing match against Middlesex in the LV= Insurance County Championship will be his last for the Club.
Last month, Vilas announced that he will retire from County Cricket at the end of this season and the 38-year-old has now taken the decision to bow out at Emirates Old Trafford at the end of this match.
Vilas reached an emotional century yesterday, in what could have been his final innings for the Club.
Vilas said: "This is going to be my last game here at Emirates Old Trafford and, obviously, it's an emotional game after the seven years I've had here - hopefully we can finish it well.
"It's been an absolute privilege to play here [at Emirates Old Trafford] from the start and it's nice to be able to finish off here as well.
"I think the timing is right for myself and my family - I wanted to be at home a bit more and spend some time with them, but also to try and leave the club and the game or playing county cricket when I'm still enjoying it and loving it.
"I want to be able to give my all and 100% and, with the way that I'm feeling now, I felt that this was probably the last year I could do that really for the team.
"I never wanted to be in a position where you let them down or you’re not giving maximum, I think the team and the Club deserve that from everyone here."
Everybody at Lancashire Cricket would like to congratulate Dane on a fantastic career. We thank him for his commitment and dedication during the last seven seasons – including four as captain – and we wish him all the best in his next chapter.
Stand C at Emirates Old Trafford will be open tomorrow in order for Lancashire's Members and supporters to be able to give Dane a send off as he leaves the field for the final time wearing the Red Rose.
Thank you, Dane.
